This paper deals with the status of English in the context of colonial India. It also analyzes different discursive formations (mainly literary discourses written in Bangla) that deals with the binary of White/non-white. It questions the essential construction of this binary as Guest White as a donor and host non-white as a receptor do not always operate as a one-way traffic; sometimes the White space was disrupted by the non-white performance or could be mimicked by the non-white or even White space is appropriated by the non-white. In between this binary, there are different shades as well as role-reversal of the supposed donor and receptor. Thus, the story of otherness and togetherness of white and non-white cannot be told in a deterministic way of telling the polarized “truth” of colonialism. The reciprocal reflection(s) of each other leads to a different hi(story) of English(es) in India.
